Almond Windmill Cookies

March 26, 2020
NOTE: This was taken from the blog of Foundations Health Solutions leader Bob Speelman. Each week Bob works at one of our Foundations Health facilities in different roles. Whether working in housekeeping or as a nursing assistant, he sees firsthand how we embody the vision of our founder and nursing home developer, Brian Colleran, to be "A Culture of Care."

Beachwood, Ohio -
I spent the day with some of my favorite people! STNA's, frontline staff, and residents. I was at Beachwood Pointe Care Center, our 120-bed facility in Beachwood, Ohio. I've known Lisa Houston for years and her heart and passion for our resident is simply amazing. She's been an STNA for 34 years and her heart still beats for taking care of people. I spent my day with Lisa and Shawnee Wilson. You need to hear from them in their own words:

I love these women and am so proud to have them on our Foundations Health Solutions care team.

While we worked throughout the day, I noticed Alex working throughout the facility. Alex works in the housekeeping department and every time I saw him, he was moving furniture, mopping, and sanitizing every surface in the resident's room. You could tell he takes pride in what he does and has the heart to make sure our residents have a clean and safe environment. I asked Alex about what he does:

What a great guy and we are so lucky to have him in our Foundations Health family.

Then there was Eva. She came off the elevator and her smile lit up the room. She is 96 years old, was dressed to the nines, and her passion for life was contagious. We chatted for a while and she told me how she was in the facility store the other day and saw some almond windmill cookies. She told me it's funny how you see something that you haven't seen in a long time and how the memories flood back. I'd like you to hear Eva tell it in her own words:

I love my job! I love our residents, and I love our staff!! Eva reminds us during this time of uncertainty and isolation what's really important. It's funny what jars our memory; for Eva, it was almond windmill cookies and boy the memories of love and joy they brought back.

Thank you, Eva! You have put so much in perspective. You are the very reason Lisa, Shawnee, Alex, and the care team at Beachwood come in every day and are passionate about what they do. You are the reason they want to make sure you are cared for and safe and happy. Your wisdom and love is still making a difference.

Brian and Yashica - Thank-you so much for allowing me to spend the day with your team and your residents. Bless them and honor them and make a difference and make sure our Culture of Care is alive and well and please don't forget to eat a few Almond Windmill Cookies! It's the little things.
